Gorges du Tarn

Camping in the region, Gorges du Tarn

The Tarn Gorges are among the most unspoilt regions of France. The Tarn, Jonte and Dourbie dug in the limestone plateaus of the Great Causses beautiful valleys which form narrow gorges and canyons. Tarn Gorges are the most spectacular. They can be discovered from the water during a canoe ride or from the hiking trails that run on the top of their rocky cliffs. While Tarn expands, Tarn Gorges become the Tarn Valley, you can admire the Millau viaduct, the highest bridge in the world.

The Gorges de la Jonte, less popular and less crowded in high season, are not less beautiful with impressive rocky outcrops and especially the dozens of vultures circling in the sky of the Lozere. The landscape of the valley Dourbie are softer and less abrupt. Charming perched villages, clinging to the limestone cliffs, can be seen. Once you leave the river shores, you'll discover somptuous landscapes made of stones. Particularly on the Causse du Larzac where are bred the sheeps whose milk is used to make Roquefort cheese. Do not miss to visit there Couvertoirade, fortified Templar village.

Lovers of water sports and outdoor sports will love camping in the Tarn Gorges region. Wildlife enthusiasts will not know where to look among the vultures, the profusion of orchids that bloom in spring or entomological treasures of the Tarn Gorges region. A stay in one of the campsites that nest in the valley of the Tarn or Dourbie will surely make you fall in love with this region still too little known.
