Alsace and Vosges mountains are separated by very few kilometers. From your campsite in teh Vosges area, you can easily drive to this region and discover one the most beautiful and most authentic area of France. Alsace stretches from North to South. On the East, the German border, and on the West the Vosges Mountains. All along this long region, vineyards roll down from the Vosges mountains to the Alsace plain. The wine road that runs between vines is probably one the nicest in France and one of the longest. Between Marlenheim and Thann, vineyards are ponctuated with beautiful and colorful villages. The most famous are probably the medieval town of Kayserberg and Riquewhir, still intact after centuries. That's where the grapes used Gewürtzraminer, one of the most famous Alsace white wine, are cultivated. On the top of the mountains, the impressive castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg is watching over the region.
Alsace also owns beautiful cities such as Strasbourg and its lovely cathedral but also the smaller Colmar with its flowered balconies. Art lovers will be delightful with the Unterlinden museum and the Issenheim retable, one of the masterpieces of the medieval art.
From your campsite in the Vosges, with your own caravan or renting a mobile-home, don't hesitate to cross the Vosges mountains to visit Alsace.
