Discover the Vercors, few minutes away from your campsite in the Alps in the regionAlpes

The Vercors is like a fortress. It is a high limestone plateau surrounded by steep cliffs, accessible only by narrow gorges carved by the bubbling streams. No wonder the French resistants choosed to hide there during the World War II. Paradise for hikers and outdoor sports, Vercors invites you to leave your campsite in the Alps for a breath of fresh air and wilderness.
The Vercors plateau is composed of vast open landscapes covered with alpine vegetation. For hiking in summer, with many marked trails, and skiing in winter, with many tracks, especially around Autrans, it hosts a rich fauna. Marmots or eagles can be easily seen. By choosing a campsite in the Vercors, you'll find, near the camp, many possibilities for walks.
In addition to its highlands, Vercors has fascinating gorges leading into his heart. Narrow, winding road of Les Grands Goulets is particularly spectacular. Like that of the one of the Bourne Gorges which runs on 24 km from Pont-en-Royans and Choranche. It will also be an opportunity to stop at Pont-en-Royans to admire this village whose colorful houses are suspended from the cliffs.
Besides its natural heritage, the Vercors is a place of memory. During WWII, the French resistance found refuge there. The Resistance Memorial in Vassieux-en-Vercors, in the Drome, tells us the daily life of these French who choosed to say no to Nazi Germany.
Many campsites are in the Alps and in the Vercors. Once your campsite in the northern Alps chosen, so be sure to exploring this area of unspoilt nature and rich history.
